MARGO SELSKI - Artist
I am an oil painter whose canvas echo qualities found in old masterpieces. I have a very ornate cast of characters: queens, young girls, florae and faunae, predators, prey and occasional Victorian debutantes. I use this cast to create themes such as motherhood, familial love, permanence versus impermanence and the fragility of childhood and life. For me, they are the raw materials used to invent, discover and explore the tension between extremes- contemporary and classical, old and new, safe and unsafe, and discretion and confession. I deal with the gray matter, that space between extremes, in order to fulfill an unbending with for love, certainty, permanence. So I lift the brush. In these paintings I am kept.
