KIRK SKLAR - Jewelry Artisthttp://www.kirksklar.net/
I started making jewelry in 2000. I was teaching at a school that requested I offer a jewelry class. Having an advanced degree in sculpture was very useful in starting a jewelry practice. It wasn't long before word got out that I was making jewelry, and people started asking me to make things for them. Each project pushed my skills and developed my aesthetic. In 2007 I opened Metal Heart Jewelry, my own design studio dedicated to the advancement of jewelry making. I offer private classes and workshops and produce my own work which I sell at art festivals in the Midwest, and in my etsy store at: https://www.etsy.com/shop/ksklar Through jewelry making I have connected with hundreds of people, shared experiences, swapped stories and knowledge, formed friendships and celebrated life's greatest moments. What I do in the studio is a direct result of my experience of the world. The colors and forms I experiences in nature have the most affect on me. I can become lost in meditation over a stone, a cloud, or a ripple in water, and I seek to create these experiences in the studio, and with the objects I designs. I feels that on some level we all crave to be taken to a place that is free of language and it’s trappings, to be purely visual and contemplative. |
